  • A Mississippi judge granted Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss a sixth year of eligibility on February 12, overruling the NCAA’s denial
  • Chambliss went from unlisted to the No. 2 Heisman favorite at +650 in less than a week
  • Keep reading for how the ruling impacts national championship odds, Heisman futures, and SEC win totals

A courtroom in rural Mississippi just shook up the college football betting market. Lafayette County Chancery Court Judge Robert Whitwell granted Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss a preliminary injunction last week, clearing him for a sixth year of eligibility, and online sportsbooks wasted no time adjusting their boards.

The NCAA denied Chambliss’s medical redshirt waiver three separate times. Judge Whitwell wasn’t having it, calling the NCAA’s handling of the case “disrespectful and almost ludicrous.” He ruled they flat-out ignored medical evidence and acted in bad faith.

The ruling doesn’t rewrite the NCAA’s rules by any means, but the betting impact was felt right away.

How Ruling Moved National Championship Odds

Every major book tightened Ole Miss’s national championship odds in the days after the ruling. FanDuel chopped the Rebels from +4500 all the way down to +3000, and BetMGM and DraftKings both went from +4000 to +3500.

The handle at BetMGM was especially lopsided — Ole Miss pulled in 48% of all national championship bets and 90% of the money wagered. One bettor dropped a $5,000 ticket on the Rebels at +3500.

Ole Miss National Championship Odds Movement

SportsbookPre-RulingPost-Ruling
BetMGM+4000+3500
DraftKings+4000+3500
FanDuel+4500+3000

Even with all that action, Ole Miss is still very much a longshot at around 14th on the board. Texas (+700), Georgia (+1100), LSU (+1500), Bama (+1500), and A&M (+1500) are all well ahead of them in the pecking order.

But take Chambliss off this roster, and you’re looking at a borderline top-15 team with a one-start quarterback. Put him back under center, and the Rebels have a legit path to the playoff. That’s how big the gap is.

Chambliss Enters Heisman Odds

The Heisman odds saw the biggest swing of any market. Chambliss wasn’t on anybody’s board before the ruling, and five days later, he was sitting at +650 as the No. 2 favorite behind only Arch Manning (+550).

Kalshi’s prediction market took it a step further, listing Chambliss as their outright No. 1 Heisman pick at 16%, ahead of Manning (15%) and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr (13%).

BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel haven’t put him on their boards yet — they’re waiting to see if the NCAA appeals. But if the injunction holds, there’s no way he stays unlisted for long.

The production is there to back it up. Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns last year with only 3 picks, and added 527 rushing yards and 8 more scores on the ground. He finished eighth in Heisman voting and earned SEC Newcomer of the Year. Another year in the system should only help those numbers.

Projected Ole Miss and SEC Win Totals

Early projections have the Rebels’ win total around 9.5, and getting Chambliss back only bolsters the case for the over. Kewan Lacy returns too after rushing for 1,567 yards and 23 touchdowns, and Ole Miss landed the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country on top of that.

Projected SEC Win Totals (2026)

TeamWin Total
Texas Longhorns10.5
Georgia Bulldogs9.5
Ole Miss Rebels9.5
Alabama Crimson Tide9.5
LSU Tigers9.5
Texas A&M Aggies8.5

Losing Kiffin to LSU stings, no question, and he took some guys with him. But Pete Golding walks into a pretty loaded situation. This team put up 489.7 yards per game in 2025, which was second-best nationally.

Having a quarterback who already ran this offense and made a playoff run goes a long way toward smoothing out the coaching transition.

Worth noting too — Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar has a similar eligibility case pending right now. Aguilar led the SEC in passing yards per game last season with 3,565 yards and 24 touchdowns, and legal analysts give him roughly a 70% chance of getting cleared.

If Aguilar wins, the books will be adjusting all over again. Courts are shaping college football rosters now just as much as the portal, and the college football odds are following right behind.

Make no mistake, this year’s Indiana Hoosiers are a complete outlier. Indiana is just the second team to reach the National Championship Game with preseason title odds of +10000 or longer since 2001, and the first team to win it all.

Few people saw the Hoosiers incredible run coming, but there were definitely signs suggesting they might exceed expectation. Indiana’s hire of Curt Cignetti was a game changer, and he did a masterful job of using the transfer portal to quickly build up the program. Plenty of teams will be looking to replicate the Hoosiers strategy next season, which got us wondering if there’s another longshot ready to make an extraordinary leap.

Below you’ll find the latest 2027 National Title odds, along with the longshot I think could be next year’s Indiana.

The Hoosiers won’t be catching anyone off guard in the 2027 National Championship odds, as they’re the current co-favorite with Ohio State.

Outside the 1999 LA Rams (+15000), Indiana is the only other champion across the six major American sports leagues that won a title after boasting a preseason championship price tag of 100-1 or longer.

TCU came close in 2022 at +20000 to win the Natty, but ultimately fell short to Georgia in the title game. The Horned Frogs navigated the Big 12 to reach the final that season, and I like another Big 12 program with +20000 odds to make an unlikely run in 2027.

Houston is Replicating Indiana’s Blueprint

There are quite a few parallels between what’s going on with Houston and how Indiana turned its program around. Cignetti inherited a 3-9 squad and immediately turned them into a playoff team the following season. He used the transfer portal as much as he could to reshape the roster, and the Hoosiers boosters opened up their wallets to entice key recruits.

Cignetti doubled down on that strategy this past offseason, bolstering the glaring holes and solidifying the QB position with Fernando Mendoza, the eventual Heisman winner. That led to a perfect season, and the program’s first title.

The Cougars are following suit. They brought in Willie Fritz from Tulane, and it took him only two seasons to turn Houston from a 4 win team into a 10 win program that finished 21st in the AP rankings.

Fritz’s transfer portal haul turned heads last season, and this year he upped the ante. He landed one of the nation’s best transfer classes, pillaging top talent from his former Green Wave stomping ground, and shoring up running back and tight end, two positions he’s graduating talent from to the NFL.

The Cougars are fresh off a Texas Bowl victory over LSU, and there are signs this team is just getting started. Dual threat Connor Weigman is returning at QB, as is his top receiver Amare Thomas. Weigman is a Heisman Trophy odds dark horse, and he’ll operate behind an experienced offensive line.

Defensively, this is an above average unit, and the transfer additions have significantly bolstered their ceiling. They already contended for the Big 12 title this season, and project to be right back in the mix next fall.

Fritz may not be the next Cignetti, but he’s a proven winner with a history of elevating the programs he takes over. The Big 12 is wide open, and the path to a conference title and an automatic bid into the College Football Playoff is right in front of them.

Biggest Longshots to Reach the CFP Final Four

Program (Year)Odds (Result)
TCU (2022)200-1 (Lost in Final)
Cincinnati (2021)150-1 (Lost in Semifinal)
Michigan (2021)100-1 (Lost in Semifinal)
Indiana (2025)100-1 (National Champion)

At the end of the day, any program with odds as long as Indiana had or that Houston currently boasts aren’t likely to hang a banner. But every so often, one of these true longshots come through and shocks the sport. Indiana accomplished the feat in a very specific way, and Houston is a team that’s on the rise, looking to emulate that formula.

200-1 is an outrageous price for them to win it all, and I’ll gladly take a sprinkle on them hitting their ceiling outcome.

No. 1 Indiana (16-0) meets No. 10 Miami (15-2) in tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game with kickoff just over an hour away. The Hoosiers are 7.5-point favorites, but this marks the first national championship game where a team plays on their home field.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on ESPN. Here is my Miami vs Indiana first half prediction for the national championship.

My Miami vs Indiana first half prediction is the under 23.5. This play targets where both defenses have been most dominant—in opening halves.

Miami has gone 13-2 to the under on first half totals this season, allowing just 20 combined first-half points per game (both teams) across 15 games. In the playoffs, that number drops to 4.3 first-half points per game allowed. The Hurricanes held Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss to 13 combined first-half points across three CFP games.

When Miami faces teams allowing 120 rushing yards or fewer per game (like Indiana), they’re 6-0 to the under on first half totals. Indiana’s first half defense has been just as stingy at 6.2 points per game allowed in opening halves.

Indiana’s Road Struggles

The Hoosiers are 5-1 to the under on first half totals in away/neutral site games against teams averaging 31+ points per game. They allowed just 7 combined first-half points in their two playoff wins against Alabama and Oregon, but both of those games were essentially home contests.

Playing at Hard Rock Stadium changes the equation. This marks the first national championship game where a team plays on their home field. Indiana is the higher seed and technically the home team, but Miami gets the crowd and the comfort of their own stadium.

First Half Defensive Stats

TeamFirst Half Under RecordPlayoff First Half PPG Allowed
Miami13-24.3
Indiana5-1 vs 31+ PPG teams3.5

Miami’s Offensive Struggles

Miami averages just 5.3 points in the first quarter—84th nationally and their lowest output of any quarter. The playoff numbers are even worse. The Hurricanes have scored only 3 total points in all first quarters combined across three CFP games.

Against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl, Miami’s opening drive ate up 13 plays and over seven minutes but produced only a field goal. A second lengthy first-quarter drive ended in a punt after a holding penalty wiped out an 18-yard run. Miami’s first score has been a field goal in four of their previous six games.

This isn’t Carson Beck struggling. It’s Miami’s approach. They grind out drives and eat clock, but they rarely strike fast early. That methodical style keeps first halves low-scoring.

Venue History Favors Under

Hard Rock Stadium has a history of under results. NFL games played there in the windiest months (November through January) have gone 58-47-1 to the under since 2005. Miami has beaten three higher seeds consecutively, and their first-half defensive intensity has kept games tight through the opening 30 minutes.

CFP title games are 0-12-1 to the over through 2024. Championship games feature conservative playcalling as teams feel each other out early. Both coaching staffs will emphasize ball security over aggressive shot-taking in the first half, particularly with everything on the line.

Slow Pace Limits Possessions

Both teams rank among the slowest-paced offenses in college football. Indiana ranks 122nd nationally in pace, Miami ranks 71st. Each averages 11 or fewer possessions per game in the CFP, holding the ball for more than 30 seconds per play.

With fewer possessions, the ceiling for first-half scoring drops dramatically. If each team gets 5-6 possessions in the first half, both would need to score on 40% of drives to push over 23.5 points. Given the defensive quality and conservative approach expected in a title game, that’s an unrealistic bar to clear.

Miami vs Indiana First Half Odds

Bet TypeMiamiIndiana
1H Spread+4.5 (-120)-4.5 (+100)
1H Moneyline+180-218
1H TotalO 23.5 (-108)U 23.5 (-112)

The first half spread has Indiana at -4.5, with the Hoosiers getting even money (+100) while Miami is juiced to -120. Miami’s first half moneyline sits at +180, paying $180 profit on a $100 bet.

The first half total of 23.5 has the under at -112, requiring $112 to win $100. The over is -108. That slight juice on the under indicates books are getting some action but not enough to move the line.

  • I am confident with my longshot Miami vs Indiana same-game parlay pick for tonight’s college finale.

Miami (13-2; 10-5 ATS) meets Indiana (15-0; 10-5 ATS) with a shot at the college football national championship on the line at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The Hurricanes are attempting to win their sixth overall title, while Indiana tries to complete an undefeated season and win their first. The headline matchup is how Curt Cignetti and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza go up against a ferocious Miami defensive front seven.

Let’s talk parlay. I have connected on a few from the boxing world and have been really close on some College Football Playoff ones, too. Longshots are always fun and meant for a good few-dollar sprinkle.

This Miami vs Indiana same-game parlay combines four legs with +3648 odds, meaning a $100 bet returns $3,748 total if all four predictions hit. Same-game parlays offer bigger payouts than individual bets because all selections must win – but when they do, the returns rapidly add up.

Here’s the breakdown of each leg in my longshot parlay for the National Championship:

Mark Fletcher Anytime Touchdown (+110)

I’m riding one of the better running backs to start this same-game parlay. I picked Fletcher to do well in this CFP format and he has not disappointed. Fletcher has 393 rushing yards and two touchdowns (one receiving). If Indiana gives up a touchdown early, the belief is that it will be Fletcher either catching the ball out of the backfield or darting his way for paydirt.

Clearly, Miami has nothing to lose in its home stadium and letting Fletcher loose remains the most dangerous threat for the Hurricanes. That is even more dangerous than Malachi Toney.

I think the combination of the offensive line and Fletcher’s ability to cause missed tackles may have an impact. Yes, Indiana’s rushing defense is one of the best when it comes to fewest missed tackles. However, the running back obviously feels at home here.

The trenches on the offensive line may be the one edge Miami has, and they need to exploit this. Fletcher and Miami need a big play, maybe a touchdown, early to send a message to the Hoosiers that this will be no cakewalk.

Fernando Mendoza 250+ Passing Yards (+154)

Teams don’t get this far in the CFP without a big-time player. We can debate whether Fernando Mendoza is a number one NFL Draft pick later. Right now, he has a chance to dismantle Miami’s pass defense. Indiana possesses receiving threats all over the place. From Omar Cooper Jr. to Elijah Sarratt, the Hurricanes will have a challenge trying to contain everyone. Just ask Oregon how difficult that was.

Miami has prided itself on playing close to the vest and keeping games close in this playoff. Indiana comes out wanting to knock opponents out early.

But Miami did struggle a little against Ole Miss and Trinidad Chambliss. Mendoza is more like a surgeon executing short, moderate and deep cuts on opposing defenses. The feeling is that Mendoza may have to throw 25+ times (he has not in his last five games).

If that is the case, we like Mendoza to creep over the 250-yard mark late in the fourth quarter while cementing a victory.

Elijah Sarratt 2+ TDs (+550)

The Indiana standout wide receiver has breakaway speed and route running, and the Hoosiers will find ways to get him open. He has five receiving touchdowns in the last four games including two against Oregon.

Sarratt seeks the biggest stages and does not run from them. He’s got a team-high and FBS-high 15 TDs. He also has been held back a bit because Indiana has the ability to blow teams out. He will not be on Monday night.

Indiana -9.5 Alternate Spread (+104)

If one likes this at 8.5, going up a point is no harm here. The Hoosiers may have a tougher time with Miami, but have the ability to close games out and extend leads. Maybe the only team that truly could compete with them all season was Ohio State. Miami should be able to provide more resistance early, but may fade later.

I want to pull the trigger on laying the points with Indiana, but ultimately I’m siding with over 47.5 tonight. The Hoosiers are a well-oiled machine and have destroyed teams with their efficiency all season long.

Indiana averaged north of 40 points during the regular season, and has hung 38 and 56 points in the College Football Playoff on Alabama and Oregon, respectively. The Hoosiers are littered with talent, led by future No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza, and can pick teams apart on the ground and through the air.

Let’s start with the passing attack. The CFP National Championship odds favorite boasts the number two success rate through the air, and ranks fourth in yards per pass. There’s been a lot of chatter about the Hurricanes’ pass rush led by Reuben Bain and Akheem Mesidor, but if Indiana’s top-16 pass-blocking line can give Mendoza time, this won’t be much of a fight.

In a clean pocket this season, Mendoza has a 78% completion percentage and a 32-to-4 TD-to-INT rate. Under pressure, his efficiency drops, but nowhere near as much as most QB’s. Mendoza still averages 8 yards per attempt under duress and boasts a 71.7 passing grade. If Miami’s pass rush can’t get home, the defense is susceptible to big plays, as they rank outside the top-85 in tackling and explosive plays allowed.

Should the Canes slow down the Hoosiers’ aerial attack, Indiana can easily find success on the ground. The Hoosiers own the number two rushing rating in the nation, and backs Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby get to operate behind a top-four run blocking unit. Miami grades out well against the run, but did surrender nearly 6.0 yards per carry to Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl.

Speaking of that contest, the Rebels were able to neutralize the Miami pass rush with a combination of tempo and quick hitters, just like SMU did earlier in the season. The Mustangs laid the blueprint for how to beat the Canes with their upset victory, and Ole Miss came so close to replicating the effort.

Indiana will sprinkle in some of what they learned from those two matchups to exploit Miami’s biggest weaknesses, resulting in plenty of points.

Indiana Hoosiers Offense

StatRank
Offensive Efficiency1st
Passing Efficiency2nd
Rushing Efficiency2nd

On the other side of the ball, the Hurricanes want to bleed the clock dry with their rushing attack, but good luck finding success against this Hoosiers’ run defense. They allow just 3.0 yards per carry, and the third fewest rushing yards in college football.

That means we should expect to see plenty of Carson Beck volume. The key to the Miami passing attack is keeping Beck clean, as, unlike Mendoza, his numbers crater when the heat is on. Beck’s completion percentage drops by 25% under pressure, and he’s thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. Compare that to Mendoza, who still boasts a 4.5-to-1 TD-to-INT rate under duress.

Fortunately for Beck and co., the pass rush is not the Hoosiers’ forte. They’re solid everywhere else, but if they can’t create havoc on Beck, I do expect Miami to be able to move the ball enough to get this game over the number.

Don’t forget, this Hurricanes team did average 31 points per game in the regular season, and put up 24+ points in five of six games versus top-25 programs.

Miami vs Indiana Pick

I’ve been backing Kaelon Black as an anytime TD scorer lately, but the college football player props market has finally adjusted his odds to the point where he’s no longer a value. I still want to invest in him tonight, and am targeting over 59.5 rushing yards.

Black has cleared this number in four straight games and averages more yards per attempt than Roman Hemby. He’s also seen a major increase in usage recently, with 12+ carries in six of his last seven games, and I expect a few more carries than usual tonight as Indiana tries to slow down the Miami edge rushers.

We just saw Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy rip off a 103-yard performance against the Canes, and while 100+ rushing yards would be an outlier performance for Black, 70+ yards is well within his range of outcomes.

The Hurricanes face a challenging first half without their top cornerback. Miami received positive injury news Sunday when Cole McConathy was cleared after appearing on Saturday’s report.

Xavier Lucas First-Half Suspension

Cornerback Xavier Lucas sits out the opening two quarters after his targeting penalty against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl. Lucas leads Miami with eight passes defended this season and his absence creates a significant hole in the secondary.

Indiana’s offense will likely attack Miami’s cornerback depth early before Lucas returns after halftime. The Hurricanes must survive the first 30 minutes without their best cover corner against Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza.

Elija Lofton Ruled Out

Starting tight end Elija Lofton remains out after being carted off during the Fiesta Bowl. Lofton took a massive hit on a first-down catch and was reportedly seen throwing up blood on the sideline before leaving the game.

Lofton ranks fourth on Miami with 218 receiving yards and third with three touchdown receptions. His absence forces the Hurricanes into more three-receiver sets rather than their preferred two-tight-end packages.

Damari Brown Game-Time Decision

Cornerback Damari Brown is a game-time decision with a left foot injury on the final report. Brown has missed all three playoff games but returned to practice last week and continues working toward availability.

Brown said Saturday his status was “still up in the air” heading into Monday. His return would provide critical depth with Lucas suspended for the first half and OJ Frederique having played just six snaps in the Fiesta Bowl.

Frederique told reporters he’s “fully healthy” and ready for tonight’s championship. His health combined with Brown’s potential availability gives Miami more secondary options to start the game.

Miami also lost linebacker Malik Bryant, wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw and defensive lineman Donta Simpson for the season. Simpson transferred to Missouri and is no longer with the team.

Indiana’s core roster remains healthy heading into the championship. The Hoosiers received encouraging news when kicker Brendan Franke was upgraded from questionable to probable after practicing Friday.

Brendan Franke Game-Time Decision

Kicker Brendan Franke is a game-time decision after being downgraded from probable on Sunday’s report. Franke was seen making multiple field goals during Indiana’s Saturday evening practice in Miami.

Franke serves as Indiana’s kickoff specialist and long field goal kicker. Head coach Curt Cignetti called his presence a “huge factor” for the Hoosiers. Franke hasn’t played since October 25 with a groin injury.

The redshirt senior made one of two field goal attempts this season, connecting on a 58-yarder. Both attempts came from 50 yards or longer. His status has fluctuated throughout the playoffs, being ruled out for the Rose Bowl and listed as a game-time decision for the Peach Bowl.

Stephen Daley Remains Out

Defensive lineman Stephen Daley stays sidelined after suffering a freak knee injury celebrating Indiana’s Big Ten Championship win over Ohio State. Daley leads the team with 19 tackles for loss and ranks fourth with 5.5 sacks despite missing the past two games.

Indiana gave up just 25 combined points in dominant victories over Alabama and Oregon without Daley. The Hoosiers’ defensive depth has proven capable of absorbing his absence.

Defensive Line, Secondary Depth

Defensive linemen Kellan Wyatt and Andrew DePaepe are also out. Defensive backs Jah Jah Boyd, Amariyun Knighten and Bryson Bonds remain unavailable. Running back Lee Beebe Jr. rounds out Indiana’s injury list.

Several players entered the transfer portal including DePaepe, Boyd and Knighten. Wide receiver Makai Jackson also entered the portal and won’t participate tonight.

Cignetti previously confirmed every player who saw action against Oregon in the Peach Bowl will be available for the championship. The statement came after a few players were hobbling against the Ducks.

Perfect Season on the Line

Indiana seeks its first national championship while attempting to become the first FBS team since 1894 to finish 16-0. The Hoosiers are in their second season under Cignetti, who led them to the playoff in both years.

Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza has thrown for 3,349 yards with 41 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Miami counters with transfer quarterback Carson Beck, who previously played at Georgia.

This marks just the second meeting between these programs and the first since 1966. Miami plays at home but is technically the away team as the lower seed. The actual kickoff is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. ET tonight on ESPN.

Odds as of January 19th at FanDuel Sportsbook. Look for the best betting apps for Miami vs Indiana college football player props.

Indiana wide receiver Elijah Sarratt has the shortest odds on the Miami vs Indiana anytime touchdown scorer board at -120 after he led the team with 15 touchdowns this season, while Miami running back Mark Fletcher holds the lowest odds for the Hurricanes, coming in at +120.

Be sure to check out the latest Miami vs Indiana Odds and Spread, plus get the National Championship Weather Report before betting.

Malachi Toney Anytime Touchdown Scorer

Toney is far and away Miami’s most explosive receiving threat, leading the team with 99 receptions, 1,089 yards and nine receiving touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. The freshman also led the team with 132 targets and is a huge threat in the redzone on option routes and end-arounds that make him a matchup nightmare.

The Florida native’s footwork and uncanny agility have quickly molded him into one of the most dynamic players in college football. Over 60% of his receiving yards have come after the catch, and the Hurricanes will get him the ball in space early and often in this contest, forcing the Hoosiers’ defensive backs to tackle.

Toney is capable of game-changing plays from anywhere on the field and demonstrated that with a highlight-reel touchdown against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl.

Malachi has four touchdowns in his past five games, with Miami’s ability to block on the perimeter giving Toney advantageous matchups. Expect to see Toney dominate redzone touches and find the endzone once again in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

  • Pick: Malachi Toney Anytime Touchdown (+155)

Kaelon Black Anytime Touchdown Scorer

Kaelon Black led the Indiana backfield with 12 touchdowns this season and has three in just the College Football Playoffs alone. In fact, the former three-star recruit has been a touchdown machine of late, scoring five touchdowns in his past four games.

Miami gave up just 86 rushing yards per game this season but finished 79th in rushing EPA per play allowed. The Hurricanes have surrendered a rushing touchdown in back-to-back games as both Bo Jackson and Kewan Lacy broke away for touchdown runs. Lacy in particular had a ton of success against Miami’s front, rushing for 103 yards on just 11 carries.

Black’s role as the change-of-pace back should allow him to see lighter boxes against the Hurricanes, and his short-area quickness and vision make him a prime candidate to get in the endzone. With the Hoosiers favored in a high-scoring game, expect to see Black get double-digit touches and score a touchdown.

The College Football Playoff National Championship kicks off Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium under ideal weather conditions. The No. 10 Miami Hurricanes host the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers with clear skies and comfortable temperatures expected throughout the evening.

South Florida woke up to unseasonably cold conditions Monday morning with temperatures in the mid-40s. A Cold Weather Advisory was issued for inland Palm Beach County. But conditions will improve significantly by kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Despite perfect weather for offense, the over/under has dropped from 48.5 to 46.5. Sharp money is hammering the under based on elite defensive matchups and championship game trends.

Miami vs Indiana Weather Forecast

Tailgaters will enjoy sunshine and mild conditions throughout the afternoon in Miami Gardens. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s with light winds gusting up to 22 mph from the north.

By kickoff, temperatures will settle into the low 60s with feel-like conditions in the upper 50s. The mercury will continue dropping as the game progresses, falling into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.

North winds will persist through the evening at 10-13 mph with occasional gusts up to 25 mph. Humidity will hover around 67 percent with zero chance of precipitation.

Clear Skies After Sunday Storms

Miami endured a torrential downpour Sunday afternoon with thunderstorms blanketing the area throughout the day and night. But those storms cleared out completely by Monday morning.

AccuWeather projects clear conditions for the CFP National Championship with no rain expected. Hard Rock Stadium is an outdoor venue without a retractable roof, so precipitation would have impacted playing conditions significantly.

The forecast represents a stark contrast from typical Miami weather in January. South Florida is 19-25 degrees colder than Sunday with temperatures well below normal for this time of year.

CBS Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez recommends keeping jackets or sweaters handy for the game. While 60-degree weather seems mild, the combination of steady winds and dropping temperatures will make it feel cooler as the night progresses.

Indiana fans traveling from Bloomington will welcome the warmth. Temperatures in Indiana on Monday will remain in the teens with wind chills as low as -5 to -10 degrees.

Miami’s home advantage extends beyond the 65,326-seat crowd at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes practice in these conditions year-round while the Hoosiers are more accustomed to cold-weather football.

Weather Impact on Betting

Perfect weather typically favors offensive production and higher-scoring games. Quarterbacks don’t have to grip wet footballs. Receivers run cleaner routes on dry turf. Kickers attempt field goals without worrying about swirling winds.

But the CFP National Championship total has moved in the opposite direction despite ideal conditions. The over/under opened at 48.5 and has fallen to 46.5 at most sportsbooks.

That line movement tells a clear story. Sharp bettors are pounding the under while the public loads up on the over.

Sharp Money Hammering Under

The betting market reveals a split between professional and recreational action. According to Miami vs Indiana college football betting splits, 79 percent of bets are on the over, but those wagers represent only 75 percent of the handle.

That means big money is targeting the under despite clear weather at Hard Rock Stadium. The South Point sportsbook confirmed taking sharp action on under 48.5, under 48, and under 47.5 before settling at the current number.

Caesars director Joey Feazel noted that “sharp money on under 48.5” drove the line movement. He added that “on every championship game, the sharper side is on the under.”

Elite Defenses Override Weather

The weather may be perfect but both defenses have been suffocating in the College Football Playoff. Indiana allows just 11.1 points per game and has surrendered a combined 25 points across two playoff blowouts.

The Hoosiers held Alabama to three points and Oregon to 22. Indiana’s zone defense has forced 18 interceptions and recorded 45 sacks this season.

Miami’s defense has been equally dominant, allowing just 8.5 points per game in the playoffs. The Hurricanes held Texas A&M to 10 points and Ohio State to 14 while posting three defensive touchdowns during their six-game winning streak.

Championship Game History

CFP title games historically trend under regardless of weather conditions. The over is 0-12-1 through 2024 in championship games as defensive intensity and conservative playcalling suppress scoring.

The current 46.5 total sits well below the historical CFP championship average of 63.8 points. But recent defensive-minded title games have stayed low with Michigan-Washington totaling 47 in 2024 and Georgia-Alabama hitting 51 in 2022.

Vegas sportsbooks expect Miami to cover and the under to cash. Boomer’s director Nick Bogdanovich stated books will be “Hurricanes fans” Monday night based on betting patterns.

Miami’s Ball-Control Offense

The Hurricanes aren’t built to score at Indiana’s pace. Miami employs a ball-control philosophy that shortens games and reduces total possessions.

Miami has averaged just 21.7 points across three playoff games. The Hurricanes managed only 14 points against Ohio State’s defense before defensive scores padded the final margin to 24-14.

Running back Mark Fletcher has averaged 6.8 yards per carry in the playoffs as Miami leans on power rushing to complement its elite defense. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson acknowledged the team’s approach is to “complement” the defense rather than engage in shootouts.

If Miami controls tempo and limits possessions like they did against Ohio State, the total naturally trends under regardless of weather conditions at Hard Rock Stadium.

The CFP National Championship kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET Monday on ESPN. Temperatures around 63 degrees with clear skies make for perfect football weather, even if sharp bettors expect a defensive struggle.

There’s some disparity in the National Championship Game MVP odds from BetMGM compared to FanDuel all over the board. Mendoza is the obvious choice here, but his BetMGM odds (-175) are much better than at FanDuel (-260).

Mendoza has become the darling of college football. He won the Heisman Trophy and comes across as incredibly polite in his post-game interviews. My favorite stat on Mendoza is that in his last two CFP playoff games, he’s thrown five incomplete passes while throwing for eight touchdowns.

Indiana is the big favorite, so you would expect if the Hoosiers win, Mendoza will be the pick even if his numbers are modest.

On the Miami side, running back Mark Fletcher Jr. has been the hammer in the postseason. He had 133 yards against Ole Miss and 172 against Texas A&M (anyone else remember how close Miami was to losing that game?). He’s great value at +1000 at BetMGM.

Hoosiers WR Elijah Sarratt is a long shot at +2700 at FanDuel, but he’s scored touchdowns in four straight games for Indiana. A two-TD night in a close win over Miami puts him in the MVP conversation.

National Championship Game MVP Odds: Defense

D’Angelo Pounds+600
Rueben Bain Jr.+600
Rolijah Hardy+900
Louis Moore+1000
Amare Ferrell+1000
Isaiah Jones+1000
Marlo Landino+1000

Odds courtesy of BetMGM. Get set for the CFP National Championship with our BetMGM bonus code.

The favorite here is D’Angelo Pounds, the Indiana defensive back, but I think I’d stay away from him. He made the big play in the Hoosiers’ win over Oregon with the pick-six on the first play, but a DB winning this award? I’d be really surprised.

Indiana’s best defensive player this season has been Rolijah Hardy with eight sacks and 15 TFLs. He’s great value here at +1000 at FanDuel.

If you want to believe in Miami tonight, then you know they have to win it on defense. They probably aren’t winning a shootout. I love Rueben Bain Jr. for Miami at +900 at FanDuel. Miami’s best shot is to get after Mendoza with a pass rush. If Bain Jr. has two sacks, a few tackles and the Canes find a way to win, he’d be a lock to be Defensive MVP.

National Championship Game MVP Predictions

Mendoza is such an obvious pick for offensive MVP that I’m actually surprised the odds aren’t even lower for him. He’s had a great season and has become the poster boy for Indiana football.

My sleeper pick for offensive MVP would be Malachi Toney for Miami. Toney, a freshman, plays all over the field for the U. He gets snaps at quarterback, is mainly a wide receiver, but they like to use him on sweeps and reverses too.

On defense, I am locking in with Bain Jr. as my pick. Even if Miami loses and it’s close, I can see Bain having a good night and putting up some numbers. I think it’s close tonight, even though the spread is seven, and it comes down to the end. Bain Jr. could be Defensive MVP even if his team loses.

  • Miami faces Indiana in the College Football Playoff National Championship

  • See below for the available Miami vs Indiana props, plus the best player prop bets for the title game

It’s been a nice story for the Miami Hurricanes, but Monday’s homecoming for the College National Championship has all the makings of a nightmare when they clash with the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers.

Indiana has absolutely stomped out both Alabama and Oregon en route to its first title game, and not many would rate Miami’s lineup on par with either of those teams the Hoosiers have left on the side of the highway.

That being said, I do see some interesting player props you should target on the Miami side, to try and puncture the no. 2 rush defense in the nation.

That’s part of my set of go-to Miami vs Indiana player prop picks below. A reminder, you can find these and the rest of the wagers to set your ticket in the college football odds.

Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #1: Fernando Mendoza TD Passes

Usually, I’d offer another wager that provides more value, but I don’t think there’s more of a sure thing than Fernando Mendoza throwing at least two TD passes in the National Championship Game.

Fernando Mendoza Last 5 Games

OpponentPass YardsTD Passes
Oregon1775
Alabama1923
Ohio State2221
Purdue1172
Wisconsin2994

He’s picked apart a very good Oregon defense, tying a season-high with five TD passes, the third time this season that he’s hit that number.

Mendoza has thrown for at least two scores in four of his last five games, missing a perfect five by throwing for just one TD pass against Ohio State in the Big Ten championship.

Miami allowed the second-fewest passing scores in the ACC this year, and they’ve held each QB they’ve faced in the CFP to less than two TD passes. Don’t let that persuade you — Mendoza is the best pivot in the college game and it will show on Monday.

Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #2: Malachi Toney Rushing Yards

Indiana’s run defense has been lights out, and save for Oregon’s Dierre Hill ripping off a 71-yard run to open the second half (in a game Indiana was already up by 28 points), there’s been almost no daylight for any running backs against that Hoosier front.

Miami doesn’t own a dominant rush attack, but they need it to keep defenses honest, and to allow QB Carson Beck to spin.

Which is why this prop makes so much sense. Indiana flies to the ball, so keeping them honest with a reverse or jet sweep to the shifty Malachi Toney has to be in the playbook for this matchup.

While this was on a catch vs Ole Miss, it just shows how little space he needs to weave through a defense.

Over the last 10 games, Toney has rushed for at least nine yards to win this prop seven times, including 11 yards on the ground in the win over Ole Miss.

If Miami stays vanilla with the run game, it will go nowhere. Toney runs is the variance they need.

Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #3: Omar Cooper Jr Anytime TD

Here’s a chance to take value over the obvious pick. If it feels like Indiana receiver Elijah Sarratt lives in the end zone, you’re not far off, as the senior picked up another two scores in the blowout of Oregon, upping his total to 15 TD’s on the year.

Sarratt has hit paydirt at least once in nine straight games, and he’s only been held off the scoresheet twice so far that season. That’s also why he’s the only pass catcher with minus odds to score.

Instead, I suggest taking a flier on WR Omar Cooper Jr. The junior has quietly put together his own impressive set of end zone trips: his TD catch against Oregon makes it six straight games he’s hit paydirt and 10 times in the last 12 games.

You can also catch him at +140 odds. With both of them bound for the end zone at Hard Rock, place your hard-earned money on the better return.

The National Championship goes down tonight between #10 Miami and #1 Indiana, and there’s no secret who the public is betting. Money is flooding in on the Hoosiers ahead of kickoff, but as of this morning, the spread is holding firm at Hoosiers -7.5.

It’s a similar story for the total, as bettors are hammering over 47.5. As we inch closer to kickoff, I expect both the spread and over to climb, but the question is are those the right sides?

Below, you’ll find the latest Miami vs Indiana betting splits and a breakdown of how the public is betting the National Championship.

Miami vs Indiana Betting Splits

The college football public betting splits reveal that as of 9 am ET, over two-thirds of the ATS wagers are on the Hoosiers to cover 7.5 points, while over three-quarters of the moneyline and total bets are on Indiana -319, and over 47.5.

MarketSideOddsBet %Money %
SpreadMiami +7.5-11231%28%
Indiana -7.5-10869%72%
MoneylineMiami+26023%38%
Indiana-31977%62%
TotalOver 47.5-11078%75%
Under 47.5-11022%25%

The point spread opened Indiana -7.5 in the college football odds, but quickly moved to Hoosiers -8.5. It sat there until Sunday, when enough money came back on the Hurricanes to drop the line back down to -7.5.

As for the over/under, it opened at 48.5 but was bet down to 47.5 immediately. It’s stood pat ever since, but unless the under starts attracting some action soon, this line is headed back up to its opener.

Moneyline wise, the number has hovered around Indiana -320 all week, with Miami coming back as +260 underdogs. Usually, an underdog would draw more money than the Hurricanes are (38%), but that speaks to the public’s infatuation with this Hoosiers team. It also doesn’t hurt that Indiana is 15-0 straight up, and have won 23 consecutive games as a favorite over the last two seasons.

Miami vs Indiana Spread: Follow or Fade the Public

It’s important to note there’s no major discrepancy between the ticket count and the handle when it comes to the Miami vs Indiana spread. Usually, when the money % greatly outweighs the bet %, it’s a sign of sharp action, as the professionals are typically the ones who bet the most.

The way the betting splits shake out right now, this is not a sharps versus squares contest. There are obviously some pros who see value on the underdog, but there’s also a percentage of them that are betting like the public.

From a trends perspective, betting the Hoosiers makes a ton of sense. 12 of Indiana’s 15 wins this season have come by at least 10 points. Three of their four wins versus top-10 programs were by double-digits, while they’re 10-5 against the spread this season, covering by an average of 13.6 points. They’ve outscored their two playoff opponents by 34 and 35 points, respectively, and grade out first offensively and fourth defensively in success rate.

Miami, meanwhile, is no slouch ATS either. The Canes are 10-5 against the spread as well this season, covering by an average of 5 points per game. Where it gets interesting is their cover proficiency versus ranked opponents. Miami is 6-0 ATS versus top-25 programs, and 3-0 both straight up and against the spread as underdogs.

Choosing an ATS side is an extremely tough choice tonight, whereas I think you can make a strong case for the over.

Miami vs Indiana Total: The Public is on the Right Side

Six times this season, the Hoosiers have cleared 50 points on their own, including in the CFP semifinal versus Oregon’s top-5 defense. I’m not calling for another 50 burger from the National Championship odds favorite tonight, but I do side with the public in thinking this total is a bit light.

The main reason why is the lack of discipline on the Hurricanes’ back end. Sure, their pass rush is fierce, but when they don’t get home, they are vulnerable to big plays. Miami ranks outside the top-85 in tackling and explosive plays allowed, while I trust the Indiana offense to put their players in advantageous situations to minimize the pass rush effect.

Creative screens and a powerful rushing attack are two quick ways to neutralize a pass rush, and few teams execute those types of plays better than the Hoosiers. The Canes pass rush didn’t cause enough havoc against an Ole Miss offensive line that grades out inferior to Indiana’s, and that resulted in 400 yards of offense for the Rebels and 28 points in the CFP semifinal.

Miami also struggled against the uptempo SMU offense earlier in the season, coughing up nearly 400 yards, and Indiana is smart enough to dissect those two outlier performances against the Canes and produce even more success.

On the other side of the ball, Miami will need to be more efficient than it was against Texas A&M and Ohio State, but Carson Beck shouldn’t be under nearly as much pressure. The Hoosiers are solid in all defensive areas, but don’t possess a game-changing pass rush. When Beck has time, he’s proven he can move the chains, and I do expect the Hurricanes to be able to punch back enough to get this game over the total.

The College Football Playoff National Championship kicks off Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Indiana enters as a 7.5-point favorite over Miami, but our A.I. model predicts a closer game than the spread suggests.

Sharp money has backed Miami’s moneyline with 42.54% of total handle despite just 21.42% of tickets. Professional bettors see value in the Hurricanes as home underdogs, and the A.I. agrees with that contrarian view.

Here is the CFP National Championship score prediction from SportRadar’s advanced A.I model, along with data-driven analysis.

Why A.I. Predicts Miami Covers Spread

Miami’s pass rush drives the A.I.’s national title prediction. The Hurricanes have recorded 47 sacks this season, the type of defensive pressure that forces quarterbacks into rushed throws. Indiana’s Fernado Mendoza faces the most hostile environment of his career with Miami fans desperate for their first title since 2001.

The Hurricanes have covered in every playoff game this postseason, going 3-0 ATS with wins over Ole Miss, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. They beat Ohio State outright as 7.5-point underdogs in the semifinal, the exact same spread they’re getting Monday night.

Indiana averages 42.6 points per game with a +21 turnover differential, second-best nationally. But the A.I. expects championship pressure and Miami’s home crowd to narrow that gap. The 27-20 prediction keeps Miami within the number while still giving Indiana the title.

Under Fits Championship Game Script

The 47-point projection is based on tighter play-calling on the sport’s biggest stage. Championship games produce more conservative decisions, with coaches prioritizing ball security over explosive plays. Longer drives consume clock and reduce total possessions.

Indiana converts 58.2% on third down, fourth-best nationally, which means sustained drives. But Miami’s pass rush should force more check-downs instead of vertical shots. The A.I. sees Indiana scoring in the mid-20s, well below their 42.6 average but enough to win.

Miami allows 22.4 points per game, ranking 31st nationally. The numbers aren’t elite, but the Hurricanes create negative plays with their pressure. Both offenses should lean on shorter passes and the ground game rather than taking risky deep shots.

Sharp Money Backs the Hurricanes

Public betting has created massive imbalance. An overwhelming 67.6% back Indiana against the spread while 80.96% take the over. But professional money tells a different story, with 42.54% of moneyline handle on Miami despite just 21.42% of tickets.

When nearly half the money backs a team getting less than a quarter of the tickets, that’s sophisticated money seeing value. Those larger wagers come from bettors who believe Miami keeps this game within one score, and the A.I.’s 27-20 prediction aligns with that read.

Miami +7.5 offers value with Hard Rock Stadium providing a genuine home-field advantage. The under 47.5 fits the model’s expectation of conservative play-calling. Mendoza’s passing yardage under 242.5 also looks solid given Miami’s 47 sacks and the likelihood he’ll check down more often.

Monday’s national championship kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Weather looks ideal with mid-60s temperatures and sunshine. The A.I. sees Indiana hoisting the trophy, but Miami keeping it close enough to reward bettors willing to fade the public.

  • The Indiana Hoosiers travel to Miami to take on the Hurricanes in a game that will decide the National Championship

It’s Natty time! If we’re being honest, it could be the best game to bet on in all of sports. It’s just fun. We’re talking the two best teams in all of college football, letting it all hang out for all of the people to see. This year, we’ve got a special one since we’re watching one team in Miami that used to win all of the time, take on a team in Indiana that has never won in football. Basketball, maybe, but football, never. I’m thinking SGP. It’s the only way. The thing is, most of us can’t do player props, but our guys at FanDuel have us covered. What we can do is just take team props. We won’t even have to worry about one of our guys getting hurt. Feels genius.

Indiana vs Miami Same-Game Parlay

PickOdds
Miami 225+ Receiving Yards+124
Indiana/Miami Over 40.5-260
IND vs MIA Same-Game Parlay+193 (With Boost)

The two legs of this IND/MIA same-game parlay – which are both -260 or shorter – spit out a +193 SGP at FanDuel.

Odds as of January 19th at FanDuel. Get the latest NFL betting promos before betting.

Hoosiers vs Hurricanes SGP Leg #1 – Miami Needs Carson Beck

We’re going to need to start this thing off with someone we can trust. Someone who is battle-tested. This is a big moment, and it might be too big for a lot of guys. Lucky for us, Miami has Carson Beck playing quarterback for them this season.

This guy has already been a phenom and a bust in his college life. He’s seen it all.

Most of us can’t do individual college player props, but FanDuel offers team props that are actually legit. I’m thinking we take Miami Receiving Yards over 224.5 (225+ for those of us from the streets). When we take this, we’re basically betting the quarterback to go over his passing yards. It’s obviously not exactly that, but you know what I mean.

In this game, I think Indiana wins, and I think they do it convincingly. They’ve beaten Ohio State, Alabama, and Oregon in the last month, so we know they’re good. The thing is, so is Miami. And once the Hoosiers start hanging points, Miami won’t back down. Carson Beck has proven to be legit, and the idea that the Hurricanes won’t have at least 225+ receiving yards is crazy, especially when we consider a trailing game script for Miami. Feels easy.

IND vs MIA Same-Game Parlay Leg #2 – This Game Has To See More Than 41 Points

Since we’ve already got the move that will make us all legends, now all we need to do is find something easy to tie it all together. I’m thinking the smartest thing we can do is bet on Fernando Mendoza. The kid won the Heisman.

Everybody says, “Never doubt Fernando.”

Like we already talked about, we can’t just bet on Fernando. Most of us can’t bet college player props. But, one way we can bet on Fernando is to just take this game over 40.5. Sure, it’s juiced up since the total of this game is 47, but the Miami receiving yards play is +124, so we have a little wiggle room. We might as well use it.

The thing is, this is basically correlated. If we think Miami will be forced into throwing the ball, it’s because Indiana is hanging points. To be fair, why wouldn’t they? They just hung a 50-burger on Oregon, and the week before, they put up 38 on Alabama. My guess is they put up damn near 30 on Miami, and when they do that, the Hurricanes will fight back. They’ll score at least 41 points combined in this thing. Feels easy.

The stage is set for the National Championship on Monday as #10 Miami faces #1 Indiana. The Hoosiers have steamrolled the competition so far in the College Football Playoff, and online sportsbooks expect that trend to continue per the latest college football odds.

Indiana is currently a sizeable favorite 24 hours before kickoff, and chances are high the spread will only increase as we get closer to game time.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm ET from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Here are the latest Miami vs Indiana odds, spread and line movement for the National Championship.

Miami vs Indiana Odds and Spread

The Hoosiers are currently favored by 7.5 points across most online sportsbooks, while the total sits at 47.5. The spread was sitting at -8.5 across the industry up until Sunday, when a flurry of Hurricanes money forced the line down.

Indiana opened up as a 7.5 point favorite as they look to cap off a perfect season, and were quickly bet up a point. The total opened a full point higher at 48.5, but given the quality of both defenses on paper, it wasn’t a shock to see that number bet down.

Miami vs Indiana Line Movement for National Championship

As you can see, we’ve seen some line movement over the last week and I don’t think we’re through seeing these odds shift. As we get closer to Monday night, I expect the public to hammer the Indiana spread, forcing books to raise the price to bet on the CFP National Championship odds favorite.

The spread move towards Miami is surprising and I believe temporary. This is a nightmare matchup for the Canes, as Indiana is equipped to handle their vaunted pass rush, while the Hoosiers defense ranks inside the top-10 in almost every key metric.

The more people dig deep on the Hoosiers, the more they’ll like what they discover. 12 of Indiana’s 15 wins this season have come by at least 10 points, including both CFP outings. They outscored #9 Alabama and #5 Oregon by a combined 69 points, while head coach Curt Cignetti has been a cover machine in the FBS. His teams are 34-17 against the spread, and 29-14 ATS as favorites.

Anyone with access to projections is going to be racing to bet Indiana as well, as most advanced models have them closer to an 11-point favorite.

History is also on line for the Hoosiers as they’re looking to become the first program since 2001 to win the National Championship after boasting preseason title odds of 100-1 or longer.

Biggest Longshots to Reach the CFP Final Four

Program (Year)Odds (Result)
TCU (2022)200-1 (Lost in Final)
Cincinnati (2021)150-1 (Lost in Semifinal)
Michigan (2021)100-1 (Lost in Semifinal)
Indiana (2025)100-1 (?)

Miami meanwhile, opened the preseason with 30-1 championship odds, but defensive cracks in their semifinal win over Ole Miss should raise flags with bettors. The Hurricanes front couldn’t get home versus the Rebels, which led to a shootout in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Ole Miss offensive line is formidable, but it pales in comparison to what Indiana will trot out on Monday. The Hoosiers are stout in protection ranking top-16 in run and pass blocking metrics. If the Miami pass rush can’t get home that will expose the back half of its defense, which ranks outside the top-85 in tackling and explosive play rate allowed.

Poor tackling and a propensity to yield chunk plays on the Miami side are just two reasons this total is likely to tick up. Another, is the sheer strength of the Indiana offense. Led by Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, the Hoosiers average 40.4 points per game, and rank top-eight in points and yards per play.

No team is better at converting third downs and extending drives, and if Mendoza and the passing attack doesn’t cook the Canes, Indiana can always lean on its prolific rushing attack. The Hoosiers ran for 185 yards and 2 TD versus the Ducks in the CFP semifinal, helping them easily clearing the 48.5 point total on their own.

If you’re looking to bet Indiana act now, as this line isn’t going to stay at -7.5 for long. Same with the total, over 47.5 is going to be a thing of the past shortly, so if you expect a high scoring game you must act quickly.

If you’re looking to fade the public, I’d sit tight until just before kickoff. I expect you’ll get much better numbers on both Miami and the under then, and when it comes to being a successful bettor, every point matters.

The Hurricanes face a first-half challenge with starting cornerback Xavier Lucas suspended. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said this week that Akheem Mesidor and Ahmad Moten Sr. are both “full throttle” in practice.

Xavier Lucas Suspended First Half

Starting cornerback Xavier Lucas will miss the first half due to a targeting penalty sustained in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal against Ole Miss. Lucas was ejected in the fourth quarter after a collision with receiver Cayden Lee.

Cristobal vigorously contested the call, arguing the receiver’s body position shifted at the last second making contact unavoidable. The suspension stands, and Lucas cannot play until the second half.

Lucas is widely regarded as Miami’s best cornerback. His absence forces the Hurricanes to deploy a patchwork secondary against Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who has completed 86.1 percent of his passes in the playoffs with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Secondary Depth Tested

True freshman cornerback Jaboree Antoine is expected to see extensive first-half playing time with Lucas suspended. Antoine recorded two tackles in limited snaps during the Fiesta Bowl.

OJ Frederique Jr. should be “good to go” according to Cristobal. Frederique suffered a leg injury in the Cotton Bowl against Ohio State and was seen in a walking boot afterward. He played just five snaps against Ole Miss despite being cleared.

Damari Brown remains day-to-day with a lower leg injury. Brown has missed all three College Football Playoff games and hasn’t played since November 29. Even if cleared, his conditioning after a month away is questionable.

Defensive Line “Full Throttle”

Defensive end Akheem Mesidor is in “great condition” after suffering an elbow injury against Ole Miss. Cristobal said Mesidor “hurt his elbow for a second and he’s already full throttle.”

Mesidor leads Miami with 10.5 sacks this season. He returned to finish the Fiesta Bowl after the injury and recorded four tackles. His availability is critical against Indiana’s offensive line.

Defensive tackle Ahmad Moten Sr. was “full go” in Monday’s practice. Moten has been battling an ankle injury since the Cotton Bowl when an Ohio State lineman rolled up on his leg. He played limited snaps against Ole Miss but appears ready for a full workload.

Elija Lofton Questionable

Tight end Elija Lofton is the biggest question mark for Miami’s offense. Lofton was carted to the locker room in the second quarter against Ole Miss after taking a severe hit following a reception. He was seen spitting blood on the sideline before leaving.

Cristobal confirmed Lofton is “the one that’s in question” when discussing injury status. Lofton ranks fourth on Miami with 23 receptions for 218 yards and three touchdowns this season.

If Lofton cannot play, backup Alex Bauman would assume the primary tight end role. True freshman Luka Gilbert would provide depth. Miami may utilize more three-receiver sets rather than their preferred two-tight-end formations.

The Hoosiers are in excellent health heading into the championship. Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said earlier this week that “everybody who played in the last game will play in this game.”

Mikail Kamara Available

Defensive end Mikail Kamara will be ready despite leaving the Peach Bowl against Oregon twice with assistance from the coaching staff. Kamara’s availability is crucial with fellow defensive lineman Stephen Daley sidelined.

Daley suffered a season-ending leg injury celebrating Indiana’s Big Ten Championship win over Ohio State. He ranked second nationally with 19 tackles for loss before the injury. Sophomore Daniel Ndukwe has stepped into an expanded role in Daley’s absence.

No New Injury Concerns

Indiana’s injury report remains unchanged from the Peach Bowl. The Hoosiers demolished Oregon 56-22 without any significant health concerns emerging.

The same defensive contributors ruled out against Oregon remain out. Defensive linemen Kellan Wyatt and Andrew DePaepe, defensive backs Amariyun Knighten and Bryson Bonds, and running back Lee Beebe Jr. are all unavailable.

Indiana has outscored opponents by an average of 31.5 points en route to their 15-0 record. They topped that mark with 35- and 34-point victories over Alabama and Oregon in the playoffs.

This marks the third meeting between Miami and Indiana, and the first since 1966. The series is tied 1-1. Miami is technically the away team despite playing at Hard Rock Stadium, their home field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET Monday.

Is this the modern-day version of the Madden curse?

On Thursday, sportsbooks have released the preseason favorites in the 2026 Heisman odds, and it points to Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns at +750.

Pivots are the popular pick, as nine of the first 10 candidates are QBs, with only Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith cracking the list, in at no. 3 with +1100 odds.

But the person tabbed with this preseason accolade hardly ever takes home the hardware. We’re going to tell you why Manning will follow in this trend, and what better value ticket you might consider laying your money on.

Reason 1: Preseason Heisman Favorites Almost Never Win

Arch is as good a pick as there is, there’s no argument there. He’s heading into his second season as a starter, and he started looking really comfortable down the stretch, leading the Longhorns to wins over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.

But there’s very few preseason favorites that have realized the dream months later. Manning should know: he was the preseason favorite this season, and needed a telescope to see the finalists from where he was sitting from when the dust settled.

According to ESPN research, only one person has turned the trick in the last 16 years, that being Marcus Mariota of the Oregon Ducks in 2014.

As sports gambling wasn’t exactly front and center until recently (mostly living in the dark recesses of shady buildings and bars), it’s hard to actually track this. Some Reddit threads have Nebraska’s Eric Crouch pulling the preseason-end season double in 2001, and USC’s Matt Leinart turning the trick in 2004.

Even the books tried to do things a little differently this time: the preseason favorite is usually released the same night. right after the Heisman Trophy presentation. This year? We’re just one game left in the college football season, perhaps to get a better gauge of who to target.

Reason 2: There’s So Much Other Talent – Even on the Same Team

Current Heisman Trophy-winning QB Fernando Mendoza wasn’t even listed in any sportsbooks’ Top 20 bets for the award.

The Cal transfer was one of two pivots that landed at Indiana, and his buzz didn’t really ramp up until Indiana looked like it was a legit challenger in the Big Ten, let alone for the national title.

Last Five Preseason Favorites and Actual Heisman Winners

YearPreseason FavoriteWinner
2025Arch ManningFernando Mendoza
2024Quinn EwersTravis Hunter
2023Caleb WilliamsJayden Daniels
2022CJ StroudCaleb Williams
2021Spencer RattlerBryce Young

Owing to that, it’s no surprise the books have Indiana’s next transfer QB inside the Top 5, with Josh Hoover (formerly of TCU) checking in at +1100 odds.

However, Mendoza’s younger brother Alberto, was no. 2 on the depth chart last season, and it seems like he could get a chance to compete for the starting job.

In 2024, another Texas QB, Quinn Ewers was the preseason favorite and again, an off-the-board candidate in Travis Hunter and his dual-threat ability took the trophy.

After winning the award in 2022 as a Top 3 preseason selection, Caleb Williams couldn’t complete the back-to-back Heisman double, with Jayden Daniels, lurking just inside the Top 10 taking it all.

Reason 3: Consider the Others with Better Value

Of the Top 10, there’s one name that stands out, only because his talent was likely going to have him battle with Mendoza for the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

After a rough outing in a loss to Indiana in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, Dante Moore announced he was going to stay for one more year. Perhaps it was because his draft stock could have only dipped after that 56-22 shredding.

Moore could not keep pace with the Hoosiers’ offensive onslaught, with Oregon down 35-7 at half and the game essentially over. Moore did throw for 285 yards and two TD’s but much of that came in extended garbage time. He also fumbled twice, losing both, while also throwing an interception.

This is a guy that threw for 3,500 yards and 30 TD’s, but that extra chip on his shoulder might lift him above the field.

The Lane Kiffin spotlight shines bright, so of course transfer Sam Leavitt is nestled in among the top, but it’s another SEC school that took to the transfer portal that might be worth considering down the board.

South Florida pivot Byrum Brown is coming off a big season for the Bulls, ranking inside the nation’s Top 30 in passing yards and Top 15 in TD passes with 28.

He arrives at Auburn following his USF head coach Alex Golesh. Another big season will hit harder in one of college football’s elite conferences, and that could make him the fourth straight portal-to-Heisman winner in a row.

The 2026 Heisman Trophy race is officially underway. After an exciting 2025 Heisman race, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza won in a close vote over Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia. Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame and Julian Sayin of Ohio State rounded out the New York-bound finalists.

With the 2025 Heisman ceremony in the books, sportsbooks have released their opening 2026 Heisman odds. Arch Manning leads the Heisman betting board as the favorite, followed by Notre Dame’s CJ Carr and Ohio State duo Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith.

Continue reading for the full 2026 Heisman odds, my Heisman predictions, and the best longshot bets to consider.

Top Heisman Best Bets

Julian Sayin, Ohio State Quarterback, +1100 Odds

A finalist in 2025, Sayin amassed north of 3,300 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns in his true sophomore season. He currently leads the nation in completion percentage and total completions.

Sayin is the perfect combination of being a returning quarterback on a title favorite as Ohio State is likely to be the championship favorite in 2026. Keep in mind Sayin’s No.1 target, Jeremiah Smith, is also returning to Columbus.

Arch Manning, Texas Quarterback, +750 Odds

The Heisman favorite entering 2025 and 2026, Arch Manning turned it on late in the season for the Longhorns. He had multiple touchdowns in four of his last five games, leading the Longhorns to key wins over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M in November.

Manning was eligible to declare for the draft, but he opted to return to Austin. Texas has revamped its offense with additions such as Auburn’s Cam Coleman and NC State’s Hollywood Smothers. The Manning to Coleman connection should be particularly lethal, and both players could find their way into the top 10 in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Dante Moore, Oregon Quarterback, +1300 Odds

Dante Moore opted to stay in college football for another season. The Oregon quarterback was particularly good down the stretch. He threw for at least 250 yards and contributed multiple touchdowns in each of the last three games, fueling Oregon to an 11-1 season and a No.5 ranking in the CFP.

The UCLA transfer (after 2023) had his struggles in the CFP, throwing as many picks as touchdowns, but he did lead the Ducks to a gritty win over Texas Tech before succumbing to Indiana for the second time. Moore surpassed 3,500 passing yards and 30 touchdowns.

With Oregon’s offensive coordinator Will Stein leaving for Kentucky, Moore will have to adjust to a new offense, but the floor is quite high given the returning talent for Oregon’s offense. Sophomore receiver Dakorien Moore should pop after a solid true freshman season.

Heisman Longshots to Consider

Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, California Quarterback, +7000 Odds

After a productive true freshman season, Sagapolutele will return to Cal and continue to develop. In 2025, Sagapolutele completed 63.6% of his passes, throwing for 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He threw for over 3,100 yards, including a healthy 330 yards in Cal’s last game to shock SMU.

Byrum Brown, Auburn Quarterback, +3500 Odds

Byrum Brown is transferring away from USF to follow head coach Alex Golesh at Auburn. At USF, Brown has two massive seasons: 2023 and 2025. In those seasons, he topped 3,100 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 800 rushing yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns. If he were to match that production at a power program, he would be a Heisman contender.

Non-Quarterbacks to Consider for Heisman

Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State Wide Receiver, +1100 Odds

The best player in college football and a true sophomore, Jeremiah Smith, is the best chance for a non-quarterback to win the Heisman. In two seasons in Columbus, he has two 1,000-yard, 10-touchdown seasons. In 2024, he led the Big Ten in both receiving yards and touchdowns. This season, he leads the conference in catches and yards.

Smith, notably, will keep his connection with his quarterback, Julian Sayin. Often, this calculus leads the quarterback to winning the Heisman (Joe Burrow with Ja’Marr Chase for 2019 LSU, for example), but Smith’s path could resemble that of DeVonta Smith, who won the Heisman in 2020.

Malachi Toney, Miami (FL) Wide Receiver, +2500 Odds

The best true freshman regardless of position in 2025, Toney amassed 1,059 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns in the regular season. He also threw multiple touchdowns and returned punts for the Hurricanes. The ACC leader in receiving touchdowns is the best facsimile of 1991 Heisman Desmond Howard in his multi-faceted offensive game.

In 2025, Toney had three games with at least 125 receiving yards. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in Miami’s CFP run. Toney benefits from being the focal point of a likely CFP offense in 2026, regardless of who plays quarterback for the ‘Canes.

Caleb Hawkins, Oklahoma State Running Back, Odds TBD

Hawkins ran for 1,236 yards and 23 touchdowns in his true freshman season, leading the country in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns (26). With North Texas’ head coach Eric Morris leaving for Oklahoma State, Hawkins is following him to Stillwater.

A recent example of this phenomenon is Ahmad Hardy. In 2024, Hardy led the Sun Belt in rushing and rushing touchdowns while at ULM. He transferred to Missouri, eventually leading the SEC in rushing yards and yards per carry in 2025. Hawkins, if he transfers to a Power 4 school, could follow that path toward being a Heisman contender in 2026.

Last Five Heisman Winners

YearPlayerPositionSchool
2025Fernando MendozaQBIndiana
2024Travis HunterWR/CBColorado
2023Jayden DanielsQBLSU
2022Caleb WilliamsQBUSC
2021Bryce YoungQBAlabama

Fernando Mendoza is the fourth straight transfer to win the Heisman. He is also the fourth quarterback in five seasons, highlighting the strategy for picking future Heisman winners. While running backs still have the plurality of Heisman winners, quarterbacks have dominated in recent seasons.

Of the last four Heisman winners, two won it immediately after transferring (Williams, Mendoza) and two won it in their second season after transferring (Daniels, Hunter). It is worth noting that even with the rise of transfer quarterbacks winning the Heisman, previous quarterbacks transferred from Power 4 programs. This includes Mendoza transferring from Cal, Daniels transferring from Arizona State, and Williams transferring from Oklahoma. From an older vintage, Cam Newton (Florida), Baker Mayfield (Texas Tech), Kyler Murray (Texas A&M), and Joe Burrow (Ohio State) all started at Power 4 programs.

Notably, Travis Hunter transferred from FCS Jackson State up to Colorado before winning the Heisman, but he is a true outlier as a two-way player.

  • Dante Moore is returning to Oregon for the 2026 season instead of entering the NFL Draft
  • The Ducks sit at +800 odds to win the 2026-27 national championship on DraftKings
  • Moore turned down a projected No. 2 overall pick and $50 million guaranteed

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore announced Wednesday he’s returning to the Ducks for the 2026 season. The 20-year-old turned down a chance to be the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft and an estimated $50 million in guaranteed money to chase a national championship.

The decision immediately shifted college football betting markets. Oregon’s national championship odds jumped to +800 on DraftKings, tied with Georgia for fourth-best odds in the country. Only Ohio State (+600), Indiana (+700), and Texas (+750) have better numbers heading into the 2026 season.

2026-27 National Championship Odds

7LSU+1200
8Alabama+1400
9Texas Tech+1500
10Texas A&M+1600

Odds as of Jan. 14 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Oregon’s +800 odds translate to an 11.1% implied probability of winning the national championship. The Ducks have the third-best odds in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (14.3%) and Indiana (12.5%), but ahead of traditional powers like Notre Dame and Alabama.

Moore’s return puts Oregon right in the national championship conversation. The Ducks finished 13-2 this season and reached the College Football Playoff semifinals before losing to Indiana 56-22 in the Peach Bowl. That brutal ending drove Moore’s decision to come back.

Why Dante Moore Returned to Oregon

Moore announced on ESPN that he wants one more year to prepare for the NFL and chase a national championship with the Ducks. The Peach Bowl loss played a big role in his decision.

Moore threw a pick-six on the opening play and lost two fumbles as Indiana built a 35-7 halftime lead. He finished with three turnovers in what could have been his final college game.

With only 20 career college starts, he’s below the 25-start baseline NFL executives look for in quarterback prospects. One more year gives him 35-plus starts and another chance to work on his game.

Moore’s 2025 Season Stats

Moore’s first season as Oregon’s starter showed why he was projected as a top-two pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. His numbers ranked among the best in college football:

StatTotalNational Rank
Passing Yards3,565
Touchdowns30
Interceptions10
Completion %71.8%No. 3
Passer Rating166.73No. 7
Rushing Yards156
Rushing TDs2

Moore also earned Orange Bowl Offensive MVP honors after completing 26 of 33 passes for 234 yards in Oregon’s CFP quarterfinal victory over Texas Tech.

He transferred to Oregon from UCLA after a rough freshman season, where he completed just 53.5% of his passes. Spending 2024 backing up Dillon Gabriel and learning Dan Lanning’s system paid off.

Oregon’s Loaded Roster for 2026

Moore’s decision came after Oregon’s entire starting defensive line announced they’re returning. Matayo Uiagalelei, Bear Alexander, A’Mauri Washington, and Teitum Tuioti all turned down NFL Draft opportunities to come back.

The Ducks also return key offensive weapons. Wide receiver Dakorien Moore was a primary target this season. Tight end Jamari Johnson (32 catches, 510 yards, 3 touchdowns) is back after considering the NFL. Running backs Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr. return to lead the backfield.

Oregon lost safety Dillon Thieneman and tight end Kenyon Sadiq to the NFL Draft, but added elite safety Koi Perich through the transfer portal. Former Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola also transferred in and will serve as Moore’s backup.

Dante Moore’s Heisman Trophy Odds

Moore sits at +1300 to win the 2026 Heisman Trophy on FanDuel, tied for sixth-best odds. Texas quarterback Arch Manning leads at +750, followed by Notre Dame’s Riley Carr at +900.

Moore became a Heisman frontrunner during Oregon’s double-overtime win over Penn State in September, throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner.

He didn’t finish in the top of the Heisman voting this past season, but heads into 2026 as one of the early frontrunners. Another year in Dan Lanning’s system should help him grow as a leader and get better at reading defenses.

Oregon’s National Championship Chances in 2026

Oregon enters the 2026 College Football Playoff race as one of three Big Ten teams with real national championship odds. The conference looks dominant heading into next season:

Big Ten TeamNational Title OddsImplied Probability
Ohio State+60014.3%
Indiana+70012.5%
Oregon+80011.1%

The Ducks are returning more talent than almost any other team in college football. With Moore and the whole defensive line coming back, Oregon has one of the most complete rosters in the country.

They did lose to Indiana twice this past season, including that 56-22 blowout in the CFP semifinal. But a 13-2 record and a spot in the Playoff showed they can compete with anyone.

The one red flag? Both offensive coordinator Will Stein and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi left for other opportunities. We’ve seen countless times that replacing elite coordinators can derail championship seasons. Ohio State struggled with coordinator changes this year after losing some of their best assistants.

Still, with Moore back under center and the roster loaded, Oregon enters 2026 as a true championship contender. If you believe the Ducks can bounce back from their losses to Indiana, those +800 odds might be worth jumping on.

Nobody has stopped Indiana’s offense this season. Only a few have provided resistance.

Next up? Miami, which features NFL-ready players at every level, most notably in book end edge rushers Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor.

The Hoosiers and Hurricanes will meet Monday, January 19 at Hard Rock Stadium, which happens to be the Hurricanes’ home field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm (ESPN).

Oddsmakers heavily favor the Hoosiers, with the spread already moving to 8.5 points on January 13.

For player prop enthusiasts, the quarterback duel takes center stage, featuring Indiana’s Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza coming off a masterful five-touchdown performance against Oregon and Miami’s Carson Beck, who showcased his dual-threat capabilities with three total touchdowns in a tight win over Ole Miss.

We’ll explore the best player props ahead of the national title game.

Indiana vs Miami Player Props Analysis

Passing Props

PlayerPassing YardsPassing TDs
Fernando Mendoza (IND)215.5 (-115o/-115u)1.5 (-147o/+112u)
Carson Beck (MIA)202.5 (-115o/-115u)1.5 (+151o/-203u)

The quarterback matchup presents contrasting narratives in the betting market. Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza carries a passing yardage line of 215.5, with the over on 1.5 passing touchdowns heavily juiced to -147, reflecting market confidence in his red zone efficiency. This aggressive pricing stems from his recent touchdown explosion and the Hoosiers’ air raid tendencies. Mendoza has thrown 41 touchdown passes this season, extending his program record.

Miami’s Carson Beck tells a different story despite similar yardage expectations. His passing touchdown under at -203 suggests oddsmakers expect field position battles and potential reliance on the ground game in scoring situations. Beck has thrown 29 touchdown passes this season. The line movement from 200.5 to 202.5 on his passing yards indicates some upward market confidence, but the touchdown market remains skeptical of his ability to find the end zone through the air consistently.

Rushing & Receiving Props

PlayerRushing YardsReceiving YardsReceptions
Mark Fletcher (MIA)71.5 (-114o/-115u)N/AN/A
Malachi Toney (MIA)9.5 (-114o/-116u)61.5 (-115o/-114u)5.5 (-121o/-109u)

Roman Hemby (IND)62.5 (-114o/-115u)N/AN/A
Elijah Sarratt (IND)N/A54.5 (-115o/-114u)4.5 (+114o/-148u)
Omar Cooper (IND)N/A44.5 (-116o/-114u)3.5 (+111o/-148u)
Charlie Becker (IND)N/A46.5 (-115o/-114u)2.5 (-138o/+106u)

Consensus odds on January 13

The skill position markets reveal line movement patterns. Miami receiver Malachi Toney has seen his receiving yards climb from 58.5 to 61.5 and his combined Rushing + Receiving Yards prop jump from 75.5 to 78.5. This aggressive market adjustment signals expected heavy involvement in the Hurricanes’ offensive scheme.

Indiana’s backfield presents an intriguing split-workload scenario, with Kaelon Black (60.5 yards) and Roman Hemby (62.5 yards) carrying nearly identical rushing props. This parity suggests a committee approach that could complicate individual production but creates multiple scoring opportunities. Charlie Becker’s receiving line has also moved upward from 44.5 to 46.5 yards, indicating growing confidence in his role within the passing attack.

Touchdown Scorer Props

PlayerAnytime TD ScorerFirst TD Scorer
Elijah Sarratt (IND)-101+658
Kaelon Black (IND)-117+567
Roman Hemby (IND)-108+617
Mark Fletcher (MIA)+100+667

Charlie Becker (IND)+138+850
Malachi Toney (MIA)+147+933
Fernando Mendoza (IND)+213+1267
Carson Beck (MIA)+925+6333

Consensus odds on January 13

The Anytime Touchdown market showcases the most dramatic line movement of the entire prop sheet. Kaelon Black’s transformation from +105 to -117 represents a seismic shift in market sentiment, with bettors clearly backing Indiana’s ground and pound approach near the goal line. Roman Hemby experienced similar movement, dropping from +115 to -108, creating a dual-threat rushing attack that oddsmakers now expect to produce touchdowns.

Elijah Sarratt enters as Indiana’s most likely receiver to score at -101, while Mark Fletcher provides even-money value for Miami bettors at +100. The quarterback props offer contrasting risk-reward scenarios, with Fernando Mendoza’s rushing ability priced at +213 compared to Carson Beck’s longshot +925 odds, reflecting their different mobility profiles and goal-line packages.

Hoosiers vs Hurricanes Team Analysis

Indiana Hoosiers

Strength: Red Zone Execution & Third Down Mastery

The Hoosiers operate as a clinical finishing machine, converting an extraordinary 74% of red zone opportunities into touchdowns while maintaining a 58.2% third down conversion rate. This combination creates a sustained drive offense that maximizes scoring opportunities. Their +21 turnover differential provides additional short fields and extra possessions, amplifying their already potent 42.6 points per game average. For prop bettors, this efficiency makes Fernando Mendoza’s touchdown props and the running backs’ Anytime TD odds particularly attractive investments.

Miami Hurricanes

Strength: Pass Rush Disruption

Behind Bain (8.5 sacks) and Mesidor (10.5), Miami’s defensive front creates consistent quarterback pressure with 47.0 sacks, representing their primary weapon against Indiana’s offense. This pass rush excellence could force Mendoza into hurried throws and stalled drives, potentially impacting his yardage and touchdown production. Miami intercepted 16 passes and only allowed 13 touchdown passes all season. No quarterback has thrown more than two touchdowns against the Canes.

Weakness: Ball Security & Offensive Consistency

The Hurricanes’ 31.5 points per game average, while respectable, pales compared to Indiana’s explosive output. More concerning is their 47.6% third down conversion rate and 14 turnovers leading to just a +11 turnover differential. These efficiency gaps become magnified against an opportunistic Indiana team that capitalizes on short fields.

Top Indiana vs Miami Player Prop Bets & Expert Predictions

Best Bet: Fernando Mendoza Over 1.5 Passing TDs (-147) via FanDuel

Despite the juiced odds, Mendoza’s touchdown production floor is established by Indiana’s systematic offensive approach and Miami’s defensive vulnerabilities. The recent five-touchdown performance against Oregon provides a template for exceeding this modest threshold.

Stat CategoryIndiana AdvantageSupporting Evidence
Drive Sustaining58.2% Third Down RateMore opportunities in scoring position
Red Zone Efficiency74% TD RateHigh conversion rate once in scoring range
Turnover Battle+21 DifferentialExtra possessions amplify scoring chances

It’s worth noting that Miami has only allowed 13 touchdown passes this season. Only three quarterbacks have thrown two against them. And Miami’s 47.0 sacks create boom-or-bust scenarios, but Indiana’s quick-strike capability and multiple receiving threats provide Mendoza with various paths to two touchdowns. The declining defensive metrics suggest Miami’s coverage units lack the consistency to limit big plays throughout four quarters.

Mendoza also is coming home. A Miami native, he wasn’t seriously recruited by Miami or any of the power conference programs in Florida. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti will give Mendoza every opportunity to cap his Heisman season with a big throwing night.

Best Bet 2: Kaelon Black Anytime TD Scorer (-117) via DraftKings

The aggressive line movement from +105 to -117 represents more than market sentiment—it reflects a fundamental understanding of Indiana’s goal-line philosophy. Black’s path to paydirt is supported by multiple converging factors that create a statistically sound investment opportunity.

Key Supporting Metrics:

  • Red Zone Dominance: Indiana’s 91.8% red zone touchdown rate ranks among the nation’s elite, virtually guaranteeing scoring opportunities convert to six points
  • Volume Advantage: The Hoosiers’ 42.6 points per game creates multiple touchdown opportunities throughout the contest
  • Field Position Edge: The +21 turnover differential frequently provides short fields that maximize running back scoring chances
  • Goal Line Package: Black’s role as the primary short-yardage back makes him the logical choice in plus-territory situations

The market adjustment reflects sharp money recognizing these advantages. In an offense this explosive, backing the primary ball carrier at minus odds represents sound risk management with significant upside potential.

Best Bet 3: Malachi Toney Over 61.5 Receiving Yards (-115) via BetMGM

The line movement from 58.5 to 61.5 receiving yards signals market recognition of Toney’s expanded role against Indiana’s declining defense. Miami’s likely game script of playing from behind creates additional target opportunities in catch-up situations.

Supporting Analysis:

  • Market Intelligence: The 3-yard line increase reflects inside information about game-planning and usage rates
  • Matchup Advantage: Indiana’s defensive regression creates favorable coverage scenarios for Miami’s primary receiver
  • Game Script: Potential deficit situations force Miami into pass-heavy approaches that benefit target share
  • Volume Floor: Combined rushing and receiving yards prop movement (75.5 to 78.5) indicates multiple ways to reach production

Most Interesting Prop Bet: Carson Beck Anytime TD Scorer (+1000) at FanDuel

If you’re chasing value, this could be your play. First things first: Beck isn’t a natural runner who draws a spy. He has rushed for just 7 touchdowns in his college career. But he made the biggest play of his career in the Fiesta Bowl — with his legs, when he ran 3 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute. It wasn’t a designed run, but Beck recognized the opportunity and didn’t hesitate. As stingy as Indiana’s defense is in the red zone, don’t be surprised if Miami attempts a bootleg off short goal-to-go situation in which the defense has loaded up to stop Mark Fletcher.

Miami Hurricanes at Indiana Hoosiers Betting Odds

The current betting market strongly favors Indiana’s offensive superiority and home-field advantage in this non-conference showcase:

  • Moneyline: Indiana -346 | Miami (FL) +274
  • Spread: Indiana -8.5 (-109) | Miami (FL) +8.5 (-111)
  • Total: Over/Under 48.5 (-110o/-110u)

Odds courtesy of consensus sportsbooks

The line movement tells a compelling story of market confidence in the Hoosiers. Indiana’s moneyline has strengthened from -310 to -346, while the point spread has increased from -7.5 to -8.5, representing significant action on the favorites. This one-point spread movement indicates professional money backing Indiana to cover by more than a touchdown.

The total of 48.5 points has remained relatively stable since opening, though early action slightly favored the under before returning to even odds. This stability suggests oddsmakers have accurately priced the offensive potential while respecting both teams’ ability to generate defensive stops when needed.

  • Indiana is averaging 42.6 points per game and leads the country in turnover margin (+21)
  • Miami leads the country in sacks (45.0)
  • The championship clash hinges on whether Indiana’s 58.2% third-down conversion rate can overcome Miami’s defensive pressure

Undefeated and top-seeded Indiana is trying to become the first 16-0 national champion in the modern era of college football. The Hoosiers have never won a national championship in any era.

Miami is trying to win its first national championship since capturing the crown in 2001. The Hurricanes also won national titles in 1983, 1987 and 1989.

Indiana has dominated everybody to this point, most recently obliterating Oregon 56-22 in the Peach Bowl Playoff semifinal.

Miami has found a way, winning three Playoff games by 7, 10 and 4 points, respectively.

They’ll meet in the national championship game Monday night, Jan. 19, at Hard Rock Stadium — where Miami plays its home games. Indiana opened as a consensus 7.5-point favorite, but the spread already has moved to 8.5 at some books. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm, ET (ESPN).

We’ll explore the betting landscape and offer our best early bets.

Indiana vs Miami Championship Prediction: Best Bets

Can Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor spoil Heisman Trophy winner Miami native Fernando Mendoza’s homecoming?

Pick any aspect of the national championship, explore any matchup or compare the number of NFL Draft prospects on each squad, none of that matters if Miami can’t force Mendoza into mistakes and difficult down-and-distance situations.

Indiana’s offense is the most consistent and explosive in the country. It’s balanced and methodical.

The Hoosiers scored 38 against Alabama in the Playoff quarterfinals and 56 against Oregon in the semifinals.

The Hoosiers’ secret sauce? They lead the country in third-down conversions (107-for-184) at 58.15%. Miami is 11th in the country at forcing punts — allowing opponents to convert just 60 of 195 third-down opportunities.

Only two teams have held IU in check: Ohio State and Iowa. The key? Both teams got to Mendoza, forced mistakes and controlled the line of scrimmage. Iowa held Indiana to 6-of-15 (40%) on third down.

If Miami can do that, it has the offensive firepower to make a timely play and potentially pull off the upset.

The turnover battle presents Indiana’s most significant advantage. Their +21 differential reflects not just ball security but an opportunistic defense that has generated 18 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries. Miami has been solid but not spectacular at +11, and their 14 offensive turnovers could prove costly against Indiana’s defense. Championship games historically favor teams with superior turnover margins.

We expect Indiana to complete its storybook season — arguably the most unlikely in college sports history.

We’re staying away from the spread. Here are our best early bets.

Primary Pick: Over 48.5 (-110) at BetMGM on Monday, January 12

Both offenses possess the firepower to push this total over. Indiana averages 42.6 points per game, while Miami contributes 31.5, suggesting a combined output well above the posted total. Championship games often go over the total when both teams have averaged over 30 points per game during the season.

Best Player Prop: Carson Beck Over 225 Passing Yards (+182) at Bet365 on Monday, January 12

Our analysis projects Fernando Mendoza to throw for more yards than Carson Beck, but there is better value if you back Beck. Beck threw for 268 yards against Ole Miss, but was limited to just 103 against Ohio State. He’s not a traditional gun-slinger, but he has topped 240 passing yards against eight Power Conference opponents this season. Game flow could force Miami to throw more, too, enhancing Beck’s odds of going over. We expect Beck to top 225 yards.

Championship Matchup Analysis

Indiana’s statistical profile reveals a championship-caliber team firing on all cylinders. Its underrated ground game averages 218.3 yards per contest will test Miami’s run defense. In championship games, teams that establish the running game early typically control the tempo and wear down opponents in the fourth quarter.

Miami’s primary advantage lies in its pass rush; Bain (8.5) and Mesidor (10.5) are future pros capable of taking over any game and the key reason Miami has 47.0 sacks this season. The Hurricanes’ ability to pressure Mendoza could neutralize Indiana’s third-down efficiency and force the Hoosiers into obvious passing situations.

The red zone efficiency battle favors Indiana significantly. The Hoosiers convert 91.8% of their red zone opportunities into points. They scored touchdowns on 54 of 73 red-zone trips (74%); Miami scored touchdowns on 42 of 62 red-zone opportunities (67.8%). Both teams’ ability to score touchdowns factors into supporting the Over.
