Bengaluru, July 26: In a significant development, the Karnataka cabinet has given its nod to renaming Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South. The decision comes after a proposal was submitted by a delegation of district leaders led by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil made the official announcement, stating that the cabinet had approved the change. The move aims to boost development and growth in the region, leveraging Bengaluru's global brand.
Shivakumar had earlier expressed the need to rename the district, highlighting the historical and geographical connection between Bengaluru and the region. He believes that the rechristening will attract investments, increase property values, and bring the area under the umbrella of Bengaluru's development.
The renaming will encompass Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Harohalli, and Kanakapura taluks, which will now be part of Bengaluru South district. However, it's important to note that this is a name change and will not alter administrative boundaries.
The decision has sparked discussions and debates, with supporters arguing that it will benefit the region, while others raise concerns about the implications and potential administrative challenges.
